  8. Instruction and Student Learning
  9. Plan and deliver engaging orchestral instruction that integrates performance, music theory, musical literacy, and ensemble musicianship.
  10. Foster deep conceptual learning by helping students make connections between music, culture, history, and artistic expression.
  11. Teach instrumental technique, sight-reading, tone production, and ensemble balance, with particular expertise in string pedagogy.
  12. Differentiate instruction to support varied musical backgrounds, abilities, and interests.
  13. Encourage reflection, discipline, creativity, and artistic risk-taking through individual and ensemble performance experiences.
  14. Cultivate a safe, inclusive, and student-centered environment where all learners are empowered to explore and express themselves musically.
  15. Assessment and Feedback
  16. Design and use diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to measure musical growth and ensemble proficiency.
  17. Provide timely and constructive feedback to guide student reflection and technical improvement.
  18. Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate achievement with students and families through appropriate channels (gradebook, Toddle, conferences).
  19. Collaboration and Curriculum Development
  20. Collaborate with music and arts faculty to ensure vertical curriculum alignment and foster interdisciplinary connections.
  21. Engage in curriculum review to ensure repertoire and instruction reflect diverse musical traditions and global perspectives.
  22. Contribute to collaborative performances and school-wide events.
  23. Work closely with the Arts and Activities departments to provide opportunities for student performances within and beyond the school community
  24. Professional Practice and Community Engagement
  25. Organize and lead concerts, festivals, tours, and community performances that celebrate student learning and achievement.
  26. Maintain instruments, equipment, and orchestral resources, ensuring equitable access and proper care.
  27. Participate in departmental meetings, professional learning, and school-wide initiatives.
  28. Model professionalism in attendance, punctuality, and communication, and actively engage with families and the broader community through music.
  29. Certifications and Education
  30. Required
  31. Master’s degree in Music Education, Conducting, or Instrumental Performance.
  32. Teaching certification/license (valid in Brazil, U.S. or internationally recognized equivalent).
  33. Desired
  34. Master’s degree in Music Education, Conducting, or Instrumental Performance.
  35. Certification in instrumental music instruction, ensemble leadership, or Strings pedagogy.
  36. Experience

  38. Minimum of five years of classroom and/or ensemble teaching experience.
  39. Proven experience directing orchestral ensembles or small groups, including programming concerts and events.
  40. Familiarity with advisory or homeroom programs supporting adolescent development.

  43. Professional orchestral performance experience.
  44. Experience preparing students for external festivals, competitions, or examinations.
  45. Experience implementing and supporting Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for students.

  48. Strong knowledge of orchestral repertoire, music history, and ensemble pedagogy.
  49. Expertise in string pedagogy, like Suzuki or Paul Rolland;
  50. Skilled in arranging and adapting music for varied student ensembles.
  51. Strong conducting skills and rehearsal techniques.
  52. Strong communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate students.
  53. Capacity to create a safe, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment.
  54. Desired
  55. Familiarity with international music curricula (e.g., IB, or similar).
  56. Proficiency with music technology (notation software, digital audio workstations, rehearsal apps).
  57. Ability to mentor students in chamber music, composition, and advanced performance pathways.
